Generations of learners throughout Sandwell to benefit from major ICT investment to transform learning environments through the Building Schools for the Future programme
Agilisys, the UK’s most innovative IT services and outsourcing provider has been awarded Selected Bidder status for a 5 year £16m contract to provide ICT services to the Sandwell BSF programme. Agilisys was selected as part of a consortium called Environments for Learning (E4L) together with Interserve, Barclays and Cambridge Education.
Following a rigorous evaluation process, on Thursday March 12th the council appointed E4L as its selected bidder to start the crucial building work later this year under Sandwell’s BSF programme.
The BSF programme will see £370m invested in Sandwell's secondary schools over the next few years, giving the opportunity to transform education for generations of learners, providing state of the art teaching and learning facilities and services for community use. Twenty schools in the borough are expected to benefit from the BSF scheme.
It is anticipated that work will begin this summer at the two sample sites, Rowley Regis Learning Campus and Smethwick Learning Campus, with the buildings open and fully operational by 2011.
Kay Andrews, Agilisys CEO, commented: “This is an exciting opportunity for us to transform the learning environments across the borough through the implementation of innovative IT solutions. The BSF programme will change people’s lives and we are delighted to be a part of that.”
Councillor Ian Jones, Sandwell's Cabinet Member for children and young people, said:
“This is an historic day for everyone in Sandwell. This is part of the council’s focus to provide first class education which needs first class facilities. I am confident that E4L will exceed our expectations in bringing our vision of schools fit for the 21st century to life.”
Melanie Dudley, the Director of Transformation who is sponsoring the BSF programme, said: "This a really exciting time for the programme. E4L has developed proposals that are both challenging and interesting, and now we are all ready to exploit this superb opportunity to create modern schools of which we can all be proud."
