PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Business Process Consultant:
BPR Practitioner
Applying business process improvement and reengineering methodologies and principles to achieve process modernization projects. The candidate is responsible for leading working with client staff analysing current business processes and defining recommendations for future improvements.
Change Leader
A Business Process Consultant needs to be able to influence client managers and staff to achieving the proposed changes - in line with the scope and business case. The consultant will be able to assess the impact of the proposed changes on systems and the organisation (structure, competencies required, culture, etc) and help develop and execute on the change plan to implement and embed the changes.
Team and Client Manager
The role may require the consultant to work the act as a key coordinator between multiple project teams to ensure the enterprise-wide integration of reengineering efforts. Management of a specific process/change team is an integral part of this. This team will usually consist of both Agilisys and client personnel. Apart from project work the consultant has a key task as manager of an Agilisys faculty contributing to the development of more junior consultants and the organisation as a whole.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The typical activities performed by a Business Process Consultant on a change programme are:
- Undertake interviews and workshops with the client to understand issues with current service delivery and capture ideas for improvement.
- Research current process delivery within the client organisation to determine the ‘as-is’ process. Validate and define key performance indicators and conduct "Value Add" analysis on existing process steps.
- Produce recommendations for "to-be" programme based on potential savings and benefits to the client in terms of customer, staff and organizational benefits.
- Design "to-be" solution in light of "as-is" findings to remove non value-add activities, improve processes and identify potential IT requirements.
- Conduct impact analysis to evaluate consequences of the re-engineering on other parts of the service or organisation.
- Carry out simulated testing of "to be" processes to ensure that processes have improved as a result of intervention.
- Review solution options with key stakeholders in light of costs and benefits identified by the impact analysis and simulated testing activity. Input to selection of "to be" processes to be implemented.
- Identify gaps between the "as is" and the "to be", prioritising the gaps for transition planning.
- Develop an impact assessment outlining the impact on systems and organisation & capabilities
- Provide input to development of a roadmap to complete the transition from "as is" to "to be". Identify changes required (such as organisational design changes and training & communication requirements) and develop a change plan.
- Take on key activities to execute as identified in the change plan and lead clients through the change process.
- Provide recommendations on the impact of changes to the programme scope and help to manage the changes through.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Knowledge
- Experience in working in business process change projects (or workstreams within larger programmes)
- Good understanding of process reengineering methodologies approaches and tools
- Understanding and proven application of change management concepts
- Proven client and project management experience
- A good and broad understanding of business strategy.
Skills
- Able to operate and manage expectations at middle management client level
- Good team management skills
- Excellent facilitation and presentation skills.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of working as a management consultant and a minimum of 4 post university experience
- good academic record
Qualities
- The typical person for this job has worked for a number of years at one of the larger consulting firms performing similar roles or possibly as a freelance or part of specialist consultancy. They will be conversant with methodologies and approaches, and would want to help to build a Business Process practice that is considered leading in specific markets. The person can deal with ambiguity & change and posses a natural attitude to deal positively with these.
