Senior Systems Engineer

PURPOSE OF ROLE

 

This candidate will provide the Agilisys IT Services division with Systems Engineering works to agreed objectives. They will have full responsibility for quality of work performed as a technical specialist.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Will be responsible for the design, configuration, implementation and support of multi-site, heterogeneous systems based around MS NT, 2000 & 2003, Unix and Linux
  • You will be designing, configuring & implementing business critical systems as well as proactive development of the cluster support environment
  • You will be the key co-ordinator & technical lead for the developing deployment projects
  • Must be able to specify, configure, and capacity plan & rollout clustering, fail over and load balancing solutions using most server solutions (NT/2000, Sun, HP. etc)
  • You will be required to capable of both designing systems, and being hands on in the implementation of them
  • Provide a high quality of expertise in areas of IT & IS to maximise availability
  • Provide advice/input on relevant technical issues & into the provision of cost effective IT & IS solutions
  • Maintains an awareness of current developments his technical domain within employing organisation, own industry and outside. Keeps up to date on best practice
  • Carries out specific assignments related to the service improvement either alone or as part of a team
  • Takes responsibility for quality standards such as ISO27001 and policies relating to the technical specialization

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Knowledge
  • Technical knowledge of MS Active Directory, Windows 2000/2003, UNIX/Linux OS, MS Exchange Server 2003, IIS 5/6, MS SQL 2000/2005, TCP/IP routing, and DNS, WINS, DHCP
  • Experience in designing & implementing backup & recovery systems
  • Experience in designing, implementing & managing Storage technologies such as SANs
  • Experience in Virtualisation technologies such as VMWare
  • Knowledge of Compaq/IBM/ servers - AD design & migration, VPN and firewall support
  • Strong technical communication, presentation and customer facing skills
  • Ability to plan, prioritise & resolve problems in a logical way
  • Release, configuration management and development life-cycle methodology
  • Will demonstrate a high degree of business awareness / market knowledge
  • Technical writing skills
  • Knowledge of the IS infrastructure (hardware, databases, operating systems, local area networks etc) used within own organisation
  • Meeting targets and fulfilling agreements even when adverse circumstances prevail
